Mixed Bag Celebrates Anniversaries and Book Release
Release of Pete Fornatale’s Bookends Only One of Many Reasons to Celebrate
Pete Fornatale’s Mixed Bag went on the air on December 26th, 1982. The popular program will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special event on December 28th at The Outpost! Among the other anniversaries being celebrated: the Outpost’s 20th anniversary, Aztec Two-Step’s 35th and the 40th anniversary of Simon & Garfunkel’s Bookends album! Here’s how they all connect. Mixed Bag host Pete Fornatale has just published a book called Simon & Garfunkel’s Bookends, and Aztec Two-Step has been performing a show called The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook. Pete and Aztec will join forces this one night, combining Pete’s readings from his book with Aztec’s performance of Simon & Garfunkel material, and the show will be taped for broadcast on WFUV and Satellite Radio XM:50 The Loft. Pete Fornatale helped define progressive rock radio in the early 1970s. He co-hosted the 1991 telecast of Paul Simon Live in Central Park and has regularly served as expert guest commentator on PBS specials featuring Simon & Garfunkel, among many others. Who better than Pete to host this special evening, and who better than Aztec Two-Step to interpret and perform the timeless songs and harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel? When they burst upon the scene in 1972 on Elektra Records, Aztec Two-Step were often reviewed as having the “East Coast sensibility,” “intellectual lyricism” and “ethereal harmonies” of their legendary predecessors, Simon & Garfunkel. The show is a benefit for Outpost InThe Burbs, and tickets for this special evening are priced at $30, with a portion being tax deductible. Afterwards, Pete Fornatale will sign copies of his book. |
